Cosmic Threads: How Astrology, Design, and Emotion Intertwine with My Art

A Ritual Before the Canvas

There’s a quiet moment that happens before I begin anything creative. I pull a tarot card. I light a candle. I pause long enough to feel the day. Sometimes I check the planetary transits. Sometimes I just breathe.

These small rituals help me tune in—not just to the energy around me, but to what’s inside. My creativity has become less about performing and more about listening. To the mood, to my body, to the season, to the sky. Astrology has become one of many tools I use to understand those rhythms. For me, it’s not about prediction. It’s about pattern. It’s about permission.  Permission to be cyclical, moody, intuitive, intense, messy, inspired.

This is what I bring into my work. Whether I’m painting, writing, designing, or simply existing, it’s all connected. It’s all part of the same creative thread.

Understanding My Cosmic Makeup

To understand how astrology shapes my art and emotional world, you have to look at my big three:

  • Taurus Sun: My core. I crave beauty that’s rooted, soft, and slow. I need things to feel good—literally. I’m tactile. I love linen, clay, velvet, moss. My spaces are designed to feel grounding and comforting. I want people to feel at ease in my work.

  • Leo Rising: This is what people see first. It’s the boldness, the warmth, the unapologetic creativity. It’s also why I’m not afraid to be seen. This is where the fashion comes in—the dramatic lighting, the marigold touches, the flair. This part of me brings light to whatever I create.

  • Scorpio Moon: The undercurrent. This is where the intensity lives. The feelings I don’t always show but definitely pour into my journals and my art. It’s the reason my work has depth. Why I lean into shadow work, therapy, and transformation. This is the emotional truth-teller.

Together, these placements shape the way I move through the world. I used to think I had to choose between them. Now I know I’m meant to live in the tension. That’s where the real creative power lives.

Curious about your own big three? Understanding your placements can help you reconnect with your natural rhythms—creatively, emotionally, even professionally. I now offer astrology-inspired creative sessions to help you explore how your chart influences how you work, rest, and express yourself.

Design as Emotional Architecture

When it comes to design, I don’t use astrology. What I use is emotion—and a deep understanding of trauma-informed principles.

My work designing healthcare and wellness spaces has taught me that design isn’t just about how a space looks. It’s about how it holds people. Especially people who are vulnerable—like children, cancer patients, survivors, or anyone walking into a clinic carrying fear, grief, or uncertainty.

In my trauma-informed design work, I think about:

  • Nervous system regulation: What kind of lighting calms the body? What colors reduce anxiety?

  • Spatial safety: Can a waiting room allow for privacy without isolation? Can someone see the door while feeling safe in their seat?

  • Choice and control: Are there options for seating? Is the flow intuitive?

  • Sensory cues: Is there access to natural light, plant life, acoustical softness?

I learned a lot through my work with Granville Vance Public Health, where I helped reimagine spaces for youth behavioral health. I’ve also worked with Planned Parenthood on trauma-informed, dignified spaces that serve women and families across the South.

If you’re building or renovating a wellness space—clinic, studio, dental office, or nonprofit center—and want to create an environment that feels safe, nurturing, and emotionally intelligent, let’s talk. I offer both design services and custom trauma-informed art installations.

Channeling Through Art

There’s a shift that happens when I sit down to paint or draw. I used to think I needed to have a plan. Now, I just show up. Sometimes the art comes from me. Sometimes it moves through me. That’s the difference between performing and channeling.

I’ve been learning how to let the energy of the day guide the work. Planetary transits influence how we feel—soft, wild, emotional, fired up. I let those feelings enter the canvas. I create from the body, not just the brain. And every piece tells a story about what it feels like to be alive in that moment.

Art has become a way of metabolizing life. It’s how I process emotion. How I access memory. How I heal. This isn’t art for decoration. It’s art as therapy. And it’s deeply personal.

Many of my clients now commission custom pieces based on their astrology, emotional states, or life transitions. If you’re looking for artwork that reflects your inner world, let me know. I’d love to collaborate.

Living the Work

This isn’t just a job or a brand. It’s how I live.

When I sit down to work, it doesn’t feel like work. Whether I’m painting, writing, designing, lighting a candle, or even sending a thank-you note—it’s all part of the same lifestyle. A ritualized, creative, healing way of moving through the world. Some people might call them hobbies. I call them happies. They’re the moments that make life feel intentional and alive.

Work is changing. The way we define success is changing. It’s not about pushing nonstop. It’s about tuning in. Resting when you need to. Creating with purpose. Saying no to things that feel empty, and yes to things that feel true.

I created Heather Jennings Lifestyle to reflect this shift. To offer art, design, poetry, astrology, and wellness in a way that feels integrated and real—not forced into boxes.

If any of this resonates with you—whether you’re looking for custom art, trauma-informed design, or a creative ally to help you build something soulful—you’re in the right place. I invite you to explore my offerings or reach out directly. Let’s create something meaningful together.

With love,

Heather
